Winner of the 1st Triggerstreet.com Online Short Film Festival 2003. Chance encounters, random acts, and the strangers who drift in and out of our lives.
Filmmaker - Matt Kovalakides. Brought up by his artist mother, Matt Kovalakides (ko-vah-luh-KEE-deez) adapted his own art skills to filmmaking at an early age, beginning with
camcorder war movies shot in the woods near his parents' Maryland home. While
continuing to make short films after high school, he spent time as a volunteer
firefighter and Emergency Medical Technician, responding to over 1,200 calls. He
then enrolled in the small cinema program at Towson University, where he
graduated with honors in 1997. Soon after, Matt's short film ABUSIVE PARENTAL
GUIDANCE SUGGESTED was named a winner of the Rosebud Film Festival in Washington
D.C.
After moving to L.A., Matt worked a variety of production jobs on the
Sony and Fox lots, but left to have more time to refine his directing skills. In
2000, he began an apprenticeship in photography and lighting under
architectural photographer, Benny Chan.
On the side, Matt works as a substitute English teacher in the L.A.
Unified School District. He's currently rewriting his latest feature project while
keeping an eye out for smaller directing assignments.
