Sleep

Winner of the 1st Triggerstreet.com Online Short Film Festival 2003. Who can you turn to when no-one can help? 26-year-old Arthur has just found out he's dying. Unable to break the news to his friends, he withdraws into a world of his own until he finally realizes where he really belongs…

Filmmaker - Matthew Thompson is a documentary director who makes films for the UK's main television networks. After an unlikely start - getting a first class honors degree in Aerospace engineering from Bristol University - Matthew got a job in commercials, working for legendary ad-director turned feature film maker Tony Kaye. After postgraduate training in documentary film-making, Matthew moved straight into directing, making a film for Channel Four's new director's series Short Stories. Since then, his documentary career has gone from strength to strength. Recent films include an in-depth portrait of director Anthony Minghella as well as high profile observational documentaries for the BBC and Channel Four.

Matthew lives by the sea in Brighton, England with his wife and two young children. Sleep is his first fiction film. Matthew divides his time between documentary work and fiction projects. So far this year, he has spent time in Salt Lake City, New York and Boston making a documentary film about the notorious Mormon forger and murderer Mark Hofmann. Matthew has also just finished shooting his second short film - funded by the UK's Film Council and BBC Films. He currently has two feature film projects in development.
